Knitting Mermaid 4? I need your help

My kit arrived today but it doesn't seem right. I should have 3 colors to knit with, right? I received 4 blue and 7 balls of green - and one of those is much smaller than all the others. Does this seem right to you that have kit 4? Can anyone tell me how many of each color I should have? It doesn't say it in the instructions, it just says I should have Apple Green, Turquoise and Turquoise Mix - but all the turquoise looks exactly the same and all the green looks exactly the same. I've been comparing what I received to the photo of Mermaid 4 on Hanne's website and the difference should be in the greens, shouldn't it? It's hard to tell. What did you get in your kit?

Maybe it is just my screen, but there seems to be two different tones of blue (2 balls each)???

No, that's my camera! I know the photo is bad - but it the best I can take on my wee camera. The blues are all the same and the greens are all the same. I just put them under every light in my apartment!

The MC is correct. You need 100 g of B and C. 1 big ball = 50 g, 1 small = 25 g. It looks wrong unless unless the difference between turquoise and turquoise mix is very subtle and visible in daylight only. Contact the seller. Where did you buy it?

Looking at the photo of the finished #4 on Falkenberg's site and comparing your kit to the photo of mine (on my project notes), I think you are missing two balls of Turquoise, color C. The Turquoise Mix will look much more green when you start knitting it in stripes with the green.

The difference between the Turquoise and Turquoise Mix should be much more stark, I think.

I just got my #4 kit on saturday, and thought the same thing. But they are different. a very subtle difference.

I don't have my kit in front of me, so I don't know how many balls of blue I received (I will check and report back), but..........the blues do look the same, but they are not! I was shocked at how similar the blues are. I thought that they had screwed up my kit, too! If you look really, really closely.........one shade of the blue is more variegated. Not much, but it is. One shade is more even. That's the lighter one. The turquoise mix has a little bit of dark and a little light. It is very, very subtle. I still think the shades should be more of a contrast, but that's the way it is. Weird, huh?

No, you are not missing anything. I just checked my kit and that is what I have. I only have two balls each of the blue. They are different. You just have to look very, very close.

or...maybe you are missing something and I am, too!

Holy cow - you peeps are great. In the light of day, there are 2 blues. It was very hard to tell under my house lights when I got home from work last night. Now in the morning sunshine I can see a slight-slight difference. From the photo on the website the colors look distinctly different. Can I assume the Turquoise Mix is the lighter one? I wish they were labeled.

2nd question-how many did you get? My concern is that on Amy's website (http://www.almostrandom.com/needlesnhooks/projects/mermaid/) she clearly has 12 balls in her kit and I only received 11 with one of the green being much smaller than the others. I know it goes by grams, but I don't have a gram scale to check that. I need to knit the largest size so I want to make sure. I've contacted cucumberpatch the seller and I am awaiting an answer. Thanks to all for the comments!

OK, I double checked. Definitely 2 different blues, 2 of each, but I only have 11 total.I am going by the amt. of skeins, as I don't have a gram scale either. Glad that this came up.

I just heard back from Cucumberpatch with this response:

Hanne's kits often have half balls - she puts sufficient yarn to make the largest size. If you look very closely at the four balls in the bottom of the kit you will see that they are two different colours - turquoise and turquoise mix - the difference is slight and in electric light in the pack they look almost the same. The difference can be seen in the finished garment.
Happy knitting
Best regards
Jane

I feel much better now, and yes the difference must be in the grams and who wound the ball. I assume the Mix is the lighter one and therefore the color C. I think that since Mermaid 4 has more subtle stripes it's harder to tell. I am hoping to have time to sneak home at lunch today and do my gauge!

Note to alli: YOU have great eyesight as I didn't even see the difference in person!

I've got Mermaid 4 also, and I've assumed that C is the darker of the turquoises (since that one looks more variegated to me). They do look very similar - but I think we'll be happy with them once we're done.

Billie, I think you are right. The darker one must be C to do the gussets (the flare) and the Turquoise Mix - the lighter one - must be B. I wish they would have labeled them!

Thanks for all the help! You Knit-a-long-ers are great!

I have confirmation from Cucumberpatch:

"The dark one is the turquoise mix - you can see a difference in the finished garment."

Yeah!
