This is what I did:

A swatch on 3mm (which is recommended). It was way too small.

A swatch on US 3s (which was right on). But my knitting store said that the Falkenberg representatives were clear about knitting on 3 mm.

Then I did the math -- dividing the number of stitches in the pattern by the number of stitches per inch, and discovered a big discrepancy between what they said the finished size woudl be and what the size would actually be.

So...we called the representative, who said that overlap accounted for the difference (46 inches in the pattern, versus 50 plus when you figure it out).
So..I figured, that since it would take a long time to do the jacket, that I would knit about two inches of it on US 3s, and two inches of it on 3mm and take both off the needles and measure. My thinking was that I'd rather waste the time upfront than have a garment that would swim on me, and it's certainly not something I'd be happy to give away.

I did, and the garment on US 3s was exactly what the pattern said. So that's what I'm using, and I'm about halfway through one front.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20387153.post-1150156830617195382006-06-12T17:00:00.000-07:002006-06-12T17:00:00.000-07:00Congrautulations!!!
