knitting_craze

Hi Becky,
Thanks for your invitation. I'm new to the blogging world (other than checking my niece's knitting blogs, so forgive if I'm not correct.
I started the Gloria sweater, got freaked out and set it aside. Tuesday night I went to the knitting guild meeting, talked to a couple of knitters and decided I was reading too much into the pattern. In other words, second guessing myself. I'm just at the beginning, so if you have any words of wisdom, I'd appreciate it. I love the way the colors work together.

I found the beginning of the pattern to be intimidating, but with the help of a good friend perservered and finished my jacket in less than 3 months and it was EASY! That coming from a knitting pattern impaired person. Hannah's patterns are very easy , once you understand how she is writing it--no knitting short hand. I have never knitted a sweater from a pattern before because I could not follow it. The trick is to write out every single line on paper then follow it.

I find her patterns like a puzzle and challenging and love doing them. I have stopped working on my ballerina for now because it is too hot for me to knit wool in the summer, but come the fall I plan to finish it within a month and I am NOT a fast knitter.

So give it a try, if you have any questions email me at j.n.poot@planet.nl.

Good luck

I just bought my first Hanne kit - Gloria in purple colorway. I am still working on my swatch.

I am concerned the large size will be too large, and the small size too small! I am 5' 10" tall, and average size; I wear a size 12.
Any advice on sizes?

Hi, Marilyn. I posted quite a few notes on my Gloria experience on Ravelry. If you don't have a login ID, I strongly encourage you to sign up. I don't think you'll have to wait more than a couple of days. Then you can look at my Gloria project page under my user name: JudiP53.

Peggy,

If you're 5'10" I think you'd like the M/L. I'm 5'7" and that's what I made. It comes down a little further in back (fully covers my rear end) than I expected, but it is not too big around the middle and doesn't look big or baggy anywhere. Oh, I take that back - the sleeves, which I made to the pattern specs, are about an inch too long for me. The shoulders are drop-shoulder style and they're as good a fit as anything in this style on my narrow shoulders.

For comparison purposes: I'm a little on the heavy side - not fat - and usually purchas a U.S. size 12 (which is significantly larger than a U.K. 12).

Judy -
Thanks!
I made the M/L and I love it! It is perfectly sized, except that the sleeves are HUGE, too long and too wide. I have to roll up the bottom twice. (I could have saved myself several rows of knitting). But I do love the Gloria, I wear it all the time and get many compliments.
