Mermaid #3
This is my 3rd Mermaid. I started it November 26, 2006 and finished December 12, 2006. With a couple of days off because I didn't have the yarn for the stripes in the body. It seems to go faster each time! I hope to have photos of all 3 Mermaids worn at the same time by the end of the weekend!

Wow, that was fast!! I am still hoping my mermaid shows up under the tree, hopefully I will finish it as quickly as you, right
When I got my Mermaid kit, I failed to write down how much yarn was in the kit. I enjoyed knitting it so much, I want to knit another. Would you share the yarn yardage by color, please? Also, which yarn are you using?
Thanks
It looks wonderful! You are one fast knitter, that is impressive!
Happy Knitting,
Thank you all for the compliments!
I used Brown Sheep Naturespun Sport. I've been purchasing a cone of the main color, as it is cheaper. The other 2 colors are skeins. Color B used JUST into the 3rd skein, and Color C used 2 skeins for a medium.
In the comments on February 10, iIvpons said she had received, “Color A 365 gr.
Color B 105 gr.
Color C 95 gr.”
So, with Harrisville New England Shetland, which some have said is the same or nearly the same yarn, Color A would need 1440 yards, Color B 420 yards, and Color C 380 yards.
Hey, I'm impressed fiberfanatic!!! somebody read my comment and YES the amount I gave is correct. I ordered a second Mermaid and again the amount was the same. I did make the large and had a bit left.
By the way, the sweater does soften with wear. I love to wear mine and wouldn't mind making another one with different yarns. Sabine
WOW!! Great work.
It does look fab. You said you used Brown Sheep Naturespun Sport. Isn't that a heavier weight yarn than the yarn that comes with the kit? What size needles did you use? Did you have to alter the pattern?
Wow!! I also started in late November and I'm about 3/4 of the way done with the body. I'm enjoying making it but I find that the directions could be much more specific.
The Harrisville is 197 yards per 50 gram skein. Brown Sheep Naturespun Sport is 184 yards per 50 gram skein. It is close enough that I got gauge with Size 2 needles. I knit loosely.
As to the directions, I used Amy's spreadsheet, which took care of all of the questions.
