Posting for a member who can't join yet...

Here's a question that Natalie e-mailed me. She'll be joining after Becky gets back from her vacation and approves her. We've had some past discussions about the sizing, but perhaps people who have since finished have some inputs?

I hope large is what I should be making. I'm short, but usually wear large sizes because of my bust and middle. I'm not sure of the bust size stated on the directions. Does this pattern already have built in ease? Meaning it will fit that bust size with enough room to spare for a person that size, or is that the actual finished bust measurement of the actual sweater?

Thank you I also have questions about the size. The Mermaid seems to be a closer fitting sweater than the other Hannes and I was wondering what size people were making. I am looking to do a Size 14 and am between making the M or the L.

I would knit the Large for sure. Just my opinion.

I'm 5"3' and about size 12-14 and made the size L. It fits great. I don't have much of a bust ;-(. A friend of mine who is taller than I am, say about 5"9' tried it one and it fit her great. I did shorten the length of my sleeves by 10 Stitches. I also didn't do the edging stitches on the top (made my first Mermaid with it, but found that it's nicer to sew together without it, plus the seam lays flatter. Hope that helps.

I too skipped the edging stitches on the top, the seam becomes too "thick". Instead I used a method that I use often where you slip the last stitch with yarn in the back and knit that stitch in the next row.

There is probably a name for this but I don't know it. It really tightens that last stitch which sometimes gets a bit loose for me and it gives it a nice edge to sew together.
