Plisse Along

A group of us on the Hanne Falkenberg board on Ravelry have decided to start Plisse on July 1. That gives us time to get the kits, start our swatches and...

Some of us plan to write about it here as well as on Ravelry. But we are hoping that interested people will join in on either or both places.

I'm waiting on the current Mermaid for correct sleeve length of the intended victim. I love knitting her pattern!

Hi

You can count me in! I have sort of started it but will not get much done before July.

Glad to have you join us!

I would like to join in also, but I am unable to login with my identity. What color is everyone making? I would love to make Plisse in ivory. I think it would be nice and light for the summer. How do I log in on ravalry? I'm not familiar with your blog.

Hi

I bought mine a while ago and I am doing a turquioise with a very slight green fleck in it, I can; remember the exact colour. Ivory sounds really nice!!

I'm also going to give it a go, and I'm on Ravelry too.

Patty in Holland, are you a member of Ravelry and lost your password? There is a place where you login that you can click if you have forgotten either your login name or your password. It is at https://www.ravelry.com/account/login

You do NOT need to be on Ravelry to join in the Knitalong. There is hope to keep both sites going, so non-Ravelry members can watch or participate.

If someone out there has already made Plisse, please can you tell me how much yarn is required (I know the kit comes with Shetland but I want to make the top in a different yarn and the pattern doesn't state quantity).

Thanks

I am interested in this pattern but have way too many UFO's now. I will enjoy seeing your finished projects.

None of Hanne patterns list quantity . some prople weigh the yarn to try to get an idea of the amount needed to repeat. You can buy refills from Hanne for patterns you want to repeat. I suggest picking a yarn you really love and buying lots. If you are a speedy knitter you may be able to exchange some left over or save to use in another project. Good luck

The Plisse kit comes with 650gms of shetland wool. That comes out to 13 balls of wool. HF shetland wool has 225 meters per 50gm ball. When substituting wool, go by yardage (meterage) rather than weight. So you would need almost 3000 meters of yarn to complete the sweater.

I'm in. Working on getting gauge right already (may have to choose between correct gauge and nice hand to fabric).

I'll be making the large size in the "mixed turquoise" color.

BTW, my Plissé kit may have 3000 yards in it, but it sure doesn't have 11 balls. Came with 9, so they must be more than 50 grams. All the Plissés in the store had 9 balls (regardless of color).

Sorry, I stand corrected, my friend gave me the wrong info. I thought that was a bit much for the sweater. She must have mixed it up with another kit. My butterfly has 9.5 balls and weighs 450gms. I guess her balls of yarn aren't a standardized weight.

Hi fiberfanatic, the problem is with my computer. In the very beginning I can sign on, then when I go back, the sites are blocked from me. The same happened with this site, Yahoo, and others. So I can only read and able to comment here as anonymous, but I sign my name so people know its me.

Danese, would you please be able to tell me by looking at your labels, how many metres per ball, so I can then multiple that by 9 balls and get the correct quantity.

Thanks for your help.

The yarn in the Hanne kits doesn't come with labels on it. The only way to figure out how much yarn is to weigh it, and often each ball weighs a different weight.

At the beginning of every pattern, it states:

"Materials: No. 2 shetland, 100% wool from |Falkenberg Design, about 225meters/50gms."

If you find a shetland wool yarn with the same meterage in 50grams, that is 225, you can substitute it.

On the average a small sweater takes about 500gms, a medium to large can take up to 650grams. To be safe, I owuld buy the largest amount, make the sweater and then what is left over either return to your knitting shop or make a hat or fingerless gloves out of it.

Just purchased the Plisse kit.
I have lots of questions
What size needles is the pattern suggesting? (US 1 & 2)?
The blog dates are all 2008 has anyone finished this project?
I'm having a very hard time understanding the instructions.
I am going to need lots of help to
get started and finished.
Can someone out there give me help?
Thanks, Mae-in U.S.
