Hanne Falkenberg Knitalong

Hanne Falkenberg Knitalong
Woo!!! woo!!! I am finished with the Mermaid. Too late to wear it in CT this season but it gives me something to look forward to this fall! thanks to amy's spread sheet I has few problems completing the project and it seemed to go fasted than I expected. I will post a picture when my son returns from China with the digital camera. I have to say this is the first sweater my family has loved and oohed over. A friend wants me to make he one but I have Pagode in my next to knit list. Has anyone on this list made Pagode yet? I am in he middle of a Twisted Sister's pattern in cotton (mitered stripes) and the cotton is killing my hands. I hope to get it finished soon so I can begin the Pagode.

Hi Holly, I'm doing Pagode (color #1), but it is going very slowly--haven't touched it in 6 weeks or so...it should be a breeze compared to a Mermaid!

Congrautulations!!! Way to go girl!!! I thought I heard a Wahooo on the wind here in CT. I am closing in on the last sleeve of my Lastrada. Guess I should stop knitting and introduce myself.

I'm halfway through one of the fronts of Pagode. This is what I did:

A swatch on 3mm (which is recommended). It was way too small.

A swatch on US 3s (which was right on). But my knitting store said that the Falkenberg representatives were clear about knitting on 3 mm.

Then I did the math -- dividing the number of stitches in the pattern by the number of stitches per inch, and discovered a big discrepancy between what they said the finished size woudl be and what the size would actually be.

So...we called the representative, who said that overlap accounted for the difference (46 inches in the pattern, versus 50 plus when you figure it out).
So..I figured, that since it would take a long time to do the jacket, that I would knit about two inches of it on US 3s, and two inches of it on 3mm and take both off the needles and measure. My thinking was that I'd rather waste the time upfront than have a garment that would swim on me, and it's certainly not something I'd be happy to give away.

I did, and the garment on US 3s was exactly what the pattern said. So that's what I'm using, and I'm about halfway through one front.
