Mermaid Jacket

I am so glad I found this site and what fun to share in all the excitement. So many of you have done such a beautiful job and are so willing to share your experiences and expertise. I am anxiously waiting and hoping to receive a spreadsheet from Amy, so I can get started on my jacket. If anyone can send me words of encouragement or any secrets to making this beautiful jacket, all comments are welcome. Can't wait to get started. Thanks.

hi Linda, what colour combination will your Mermaid be?

you'll love knitting it. especially with Amy's spreadsheet, not that it isn't possible without one, but it makes life much easier.

Hi arja, I will be doing Mermaid #1 ivory/sand/dove . After seeing some of the bolder colors, I wish I had picked one of those, of course I pretty much love them all.

I really would like to start out with Amy's spreadsheet, like you said, I'm sure it would make life easier. How long does it usually take to get the spreadsheet? I really can't wait to get going on this.

Thanks for writing, I look forward to chatting with you more.

Hi Linda

You will just love it. I was a little daunted but, helped along by Amy and her spreadsheet, it was realyl straightforward and easy to knit. One of her great tips was to do a provisional cast on for the body rather than starting with an i-cord and then doing both i-cords for the body as per the instructions for the bind off version. It gets you away from the stress of trying to get your tension identical and makes them much more symmetrical. Oh, and keep a pencil nearby to make sure you tick off each row of the spreadsheet as you go (I have some pretty unreliable row counters!!)One other fabulous feature of HF's design is the clever edge detail she adds which puts the perfect finish onto the bottom of the jacket. Makes it look really professional. Clever lady.

Hi Ros,

I fell in love with this jacket the minute I saw it. Had to have it ! It's been sitting in my closet for a year waiting for me to get the nerve up to knit it.I just finished a Norah Gaughan's design "Roundabout Leaf Tank " that was a little challenging. But I stuck to it and it really came out nice, if I say so myself.

Well, I am debating what project to do next. I would really love to start the Mermaid, I have been waiting , what seems to be an eternity for a copy of the spreadsheet. How long did it take for you to get yours? I'll bet she gets a lot of requests and I know from her post she is in the process of moving.

Oh well, thanks for posting and giving me some helpful hints. Hope to chat with you again.
