Making Mermaid to XS- Any Thoughts?
hello all!
Before laying my hands on Mermaid, I have a concern I want to share with you all:
The smallest sizing for mermaid is chest 36 1/2 which is a small , I'm 5'3 bust 34. Small Mermaid seems a little loose on me, any thoughts?
What about adding a first number to the instructions, using the same rate of change as used in already the already existing sizes?
For instance: - casting: there is a difference of 10 stitches for each size, so you cast 10 stitches less than the small size. XS 161 171 (181) 191
- first bit in single colour: one extra repeat for each size, i.e. one less for XS XS 10 11 (12) 13
- the gusset is more difficult Ridge 2: 46 (52) 59, difference 6 and 7 stitches respectively. Should the difference in XS be 5 or would 6 be ok? We have to consider what happens in the next rows. Both larger sizes (M and L) knit 7 stitches less every second row, so probably XS should follow S: every second row we knit 6 stitches less. My best guess is then: Ridge 2: XS 40 46 (52) 59
This method will reduce the total number of rows by 25-30, which is a bit more than 2 inches (I think, my instructions are in cm).
I am not completely sure that shape will be kept for all dimensions. You will probably have to work out all the modifications first and see that all the increases and decreases check out.
Thank you for all your kindly advise. i'm 5'4 bust 34", i would prefer to have mermaid with just a little bit of ease-afternall it's sunny california here =)

Good luck!
Did you try it on, or are you basing it on bust size? My concern would be ease, are you wanting negative or zero ease?
Thank you for all your kindly advise.
